Only Two Days Marked On My Calendar

Today I placed my left hand on my Bible and with a pen I traced my hand over the Psalm that I had just read. There are certain verses I have memorized and there are some that are so familiar that I smile when I turn the page in my One Year Bible and see the Psalm that is waiting to encourage my soul. This is what I read, and although it is so familiar, something so fresh and new flowed across my soul.

“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered-how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”   Psalm 39:4, 5

As I took a few moments to outline my hand over this passage, the Lord brought to my mind Psalm 139:14, 16. These verses not only declare how wonderfully we are made but also the existence of a book that records the exact moments of our beginning here on planet earth. All our moments here were recorded in God’s book before we took our first breath!

“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. EVERY MOMENT was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalm 139:16

Smiling about the specific blueprint for my life-I started working and while looking up a website for a Christian Academy that I will be speaking at in Colorado-I came upon this quote used by the Principal Torrence Jackson. The quote (from 16th century) captured my attention because it shouted AMEN to my morning musing in the Psalms.

Martin Luther lived by the motto “I have but two days on my calendar- Today and the Day I stand before Christ”
