I had no idea that when we purchased our new home in Port St. Lucie, FL that our house would become a popular “Pit Stop.” Our home is just off the main interstate (I-95) and it is closer than any gas station or McDonald’s, etc. It takes you maybe 3 minutes to get to our house! When we moved to Port St. Lucie, I was a little concerned about not seeing many people that I know and love because we moved out of Palm Beach County. Well, my thoughts were clearly wrong! The very first week we were in our new home—with boxes everywhere, one of our kids dearest friend and her daughter, dropped by for a chat and a snack and a big hug from the Kendall’s. I was also able to give her sweet teen daughter, a copy of Lady in Waiting, which her momma studied with me and several others in our front room some two decades ago.
The next week another mom and daughter stopped by as they were returning from touring FAU in Boca. Then we find out that two precious girls from our youth group in GRAND RAPIDS MICHIGAN in 1977-78 are going to be driving through and stopping by for lunch. Then I get a text from a professor at Moody Seminary who will be driving through on I-95 while visiting Florida and she will be stopping by for lunch and to catch up on all that God has been doing. She was profoundly used by God years ago, to help with the ultimate publication of Lady in Waiting.
Then we heard from a precious woman whose husband was the first professional BB Player that we got to know and love through the Spring Training Bible Study we did with the Atlanta Braves and then Montreal Expos.
Just this morning at a church we are visiting, I had such an amazing encounter with the Pastor’s wife who said, “I know why you are here!” I can’t wait to see what God has got planned for us in Port St. Lucie and as my mentor repeated incessantly, “The BEST IS YET TO COME!” Whether a “Pit Stop” ministry or teaching a Bible Study or comforting someone who is facing the unimaginable—we are thrilled to be making a difference already in this new place and new year!
“Don’t forget to show hospitality to stranger for some who had done this have entertained angels without realizing it.” (Heb. 13:2)
Valentine for Mimi’s Heart
Recently while on Face Time with Emma (our granddaughter), we were discussing sharing one’s faith with a Jewish classmate. As I was giving her some suggestions, she kept saying, “Wait Mimi” and she would grab ANOTHER post-it-note and jot down what I said and stick it on her desk. She used several post-it-notes during our time and when I got off the phone—my heart was bursting with joy.
“That the generation to come might know them (Word), even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children. That they might SET THEIR HOPE IN GOD…” (Psalm 78:6)
Later in the day I was thinking about the new series I am developing about the FOOLS in our lives “Emotional Vampires”, and I couldn’t help but think of the profound contrast between teachable 13-year-old Emma and the many hard-headed adults that I have spent so many hours trying to reach for God’s glory!
“Don’t waste your breathe on fools, for they will despise the wise advice.”
